Guarana Extract
Guarana extract, a tropical plant from the Brazilian Amazon, is rich in natural caffeine and vitamins, as well as alkaloids, tannins and proteins.
The main active ingredient of Guarana extract is natural caffeine, which can stimulate the nervous system, increase alertness, enhance associative and intellectual activity, improve mental focus and anti-fatigue, and also provide a sense of well-being. However, caffeine is managed as a narcotic and psychotropic drug in China.
“Guarana extract is classified as a natural flavor in GB2760-2014 Standard for the Use of Food Additives, a kind of food additives, and its code is N233. The CAS number of guarana extract is 84929-28- 2. The CAS number of “Guarana extract” is 84929-28-2.
In other words, “Guarana extract” has its legal identity in mainland China – natural flavor for food.
Guarana extract is not a new resource food, based on GB2760-2014, guarana extract is mainly used as edible natural flavors and fragrances added to food.
Guarana Application
GB2760-2014 stipulates that caffeine can only be added to cola-type carbonated beverages, but caffeine can be brought into the end product from guarana extract.
Used as an ingredient, there is no clear limitation on the amount of guarana extract added, but there are content limitation requirements in some end products, so guarana extract needs to be converted and used according to its caffeine content and end product limitation regulations.
