It is used as an auxiliary material for the synthesis of prostaglandins, certain antibiotics, hypolipidemic drugs lovastatin and simvastatin. It is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate and used in organic synthesis as a hydroxyl protecting agent in organic synthesis. It is a sterically hindered type. Silicone protective agent, widely used in the synthesis of original drugs. It is used as a protecting group for a hydroxyl group in the synthesis of ribonucleosides, and is also an oxidizing agent and a de-cyanide agent.
