Chicory Oligofructose

1. According to GB/T 23528-2009 Oligofructose: Oligofructose is a functional oligosaccharide with polymerization degree of 2~9, which is connected by β(2→1) glycosidic bond, and belongs to food ingredient.

2. According to the reply letter from the General Office of the National Health and Family Planning Commission on the issues related to the use of oligofructose (National Health Office Food Letter [2013] No. 118): oligofructose is a commonly used food ingredient, and is also included in the “Standard for the Use of Food Nutritional Strengthening Agents” (GB14880-2012) food nutritional fortification agents. The use of oligofructose in infant food and prepared milk powder should be in line with the provisions of the Standard for the Use of Food Nutritional Fortifiers (GB14880-2012). Oligofructose as a food ingredient used in other foods, should be consistent with the standards of the corresponding food.

3. Food and Drug Administration General Office of the production license on oligofructose production license issues related to the reply (Food and Drug Administration Office of Food and Drug Administration letter [2015]: oligofructose can be used as ordinary food, under the category of “other foods” to implement the management of production licenses, in accordance with the “Oligofructose” (GB / T 23528-2009). GB / T 23528-2009 applies to the “standard for the use of food nutritional fortification agents” (GB14880-2012). GB/T 23528-2009 applies to oligofructose made from sucrose as raw material or roots of plants such as inulin and chicory as raw material.

Inulin

On March 25, 2009, the Ministry of Health (MOH) issued the “Announcement of the Ministry of Health on Approving Inulin and Polyfructose as New Resource Foods (MOH Announcement No. 5 of 2009)” announcement, which formally approves inulin as a new resource food.

Chicory oligofructose: it is a general food ingredient, used in infant food and prepared milk powder, should comply with the provisions of the Standard for the Use of Food Nutritional Enrichment. And the degree of polymerization is 2~9.

Inulin: it is a new resource food, a mixture of fructose polymer, with polymerization degree ranging from 2-60, and can be used in foods other than baby food.

In summary chicory oligofructose and inulin are not a kind of food material.
