La diversidad de h\u00e1bitats y el estado evolutivo primitivo de las esponjas les permiten producir y acumular un gran n\u00famero de metabolitos secundarios estructuralmente novedosos con diferentes actividades biol\u00f3gicas, como antitumorales, antiparasitarias, antivirales, antibacterianas, antiinflamatorias y de regulaci\u00f3n inmunitaria. Son la principal fuente de productos naturales marinos. El Mar de China Meridional es extenso y una de las zonas de concentraci\u00f3n de esponjas del mundo. Durante muchos a\u00f1os, las esponjas del Mar de China Meridional han sido un tema candente en el estudio de la qu\u00edmica de los productos naturales marinos. Ya en 1933, el profesor Bergmann, de la Universidad de Yale (Estados Unidos), empez\u00f3 a estudiar la composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de las esponjas y obtuvo de ellas componentes esteroideos. En 1951, aisl\u00f3 compuestos nucle\u00f3sidos como la espongotimidina y la espongouridina de la esponja Phyllospongia sp; el posterior f\u00e1rmaco antiviral adenosina y el anticancer\u00edgeno citarabina son an\u00e1logos sint\u00e9ticos de la espongotimidina. La laulimalida, la pelorusida A, la salicilihalimida A, las variolinas y las dictiodendrinas obtenidas de la investigaci\u00f3n con esponjas han entrado en estudios precl\u00ednicos como f\u00e1rmacos antitumorales.<br \/>\nEl objeto de investigaci\u00f3n de este art\u00edculo es Phyllospongia sp., una esponja perteneciente a la clase Demospongiae, orden Dictyoceratida y familia Spongidae. En la actualidad, muchos grupos de investigaci\u00f3n nacionales y extranjeros han realizado una serie de estudios sobre esta esponja y han aislado muchos metabolitos secundarios estructuralmente novedosos, como sesquiterpenos, esteroides, \u00e9teres difen\u00edlicos, glicerol\u00edpidos y ceramidas. La mayor\u00eda de ellos contienen sesquiterpenos y esteroides \u00fanicos de tipo tetrac\u00edclico o pentac\u00edclico escalarano. Sin embargo, existen pocos informes sobre su actividad biol\u00f3gica. Con el fin de dilucidar mejor los componentes bioactivos de Phyllosponia sp., en este experimento se utilizaron de forma exhaustiva diversas t\u00e9cnicas cromatogr\u00e1ficas y espectrosc\u00f3picas modernas para estudiar los compuestos aislados de las partes de \u00e9ter de petr\u00f3leo y acetato de etilo del extracto, y examinar su actividad citot\u00f3xica. De este modo se enriqueci\u00f3 la composici\u00f3n de Phyllosponia sp. y se sentaron las bases para el desarrollo y la utilizaci\u00f3n de los componentes activos de esta esponja en el futuro.<br \/>\nfoto<br \/>\nfoto<br \/>\nEn este trabajo se estudiaron los componentes qu\u00edmicos de Phyllospongia sp. recogidos en las islas Xisha del Mar de China Meridional. Se aislaron por primera vez ocho esteroides a partir de \u00e9ter de petr\u00f3leo y diclorometano, y se comprob\u00f3 su citotoxicidad frente a MCF-7 (c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de mama humano), HT-29 (c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de colon humano) y Hep-2 (c\u00e9lulas epiteliales de c\u00e1ncer de laringe humano) mediante el m\u00e9todo MTT. Entre ellos, los compuestos 1, 3, 4, 6 y 8 fueron d\u00e9biles contra las c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de colon humano HT-29, con IC50 superior a 83 \u03bc mol\/L; los compuestos 1, 2 y 7 mostraron una actividad citot\u00f3xica significativa contra las c\u00e9lulas MCF-7, con valores de IC50 de 8,8, 10,3 y 3,9 \u03bc mol\/L, respectivamente; el compuesto 2 muestra una buena actividad citot\u00f3xica contra Hep-2, con un IC50 de 10,6 \u03bc mol\/L. Los resultados experimentales mostraron que la actividad citot\u00f3xica del compuesto 7 fue superior al grupo de cisplatino f\u00e1rmaco de control positivo. Debido al bajo contenido de este compuesto y la falta de literatura que informa de una actividad significativa, tiene el potencial de convertirse en un nuevo f\u00e1rmaco antitumoral a trav\u00e9s de la modificaci\u00f3n estructural o s\u00edntesis org\u00e1nica.
