Tyrosinase er i \u00f8jeblikket det eneste kendte enzym i melaninmetabolismen, som spiller en n\u00f8glerolle i melaninbiosyntesen og kontrollerer melanindannelsen. Tyrosinaseaktivitet er forbundet med visse pigmenterede hudsygdomme og udvikling af melasma i ansigtet. \u00d8get aktivitet kan f\u00f8re til pigmenteringsforstyrrelser som f.eks. melasma. I denne unders\u00f8gelse blev der brugt forskellige kromatografiske metoder til at isolere og oprense 18 forbindelser fra Artemisias luftdele. Forbindelserne 10, 14 og 18 blev isoleret for f\u00f8rste gang fra planter af Artemisia-sl\u00e6gten, og forbindelse 13 blev isoleret for f\u00f8rste gang fra Artemisia. Aktivitetstestresultaterne viste, at forbindelserne 3-5, 7-12 og 18 udviste st\u00e6rk DPPH-radikalfjernelsesevne, mens forbindelserne 7, 13, 14, 16 og 17 havde god tyrosinaseh\u00e6mmeraktivitet. Resultaterne viste, at der var ringe sammenh\u00e6ng mellem forbindelsens evne til at fjerne DPPH-radikaler og tyrosinaseh\u00e6mmeraktiviteten. Kun forbindelse 7 viste god aktivitet i begge eksperimentelle tests, og dens specifikke virkningsmekanisme kr\u00e6ver stadig yderligere forskning. Flavonoider er en st\u00e6rk klasse af antioxidanter, f.eks. quercetin, luteolin og quercetin, som alle har st\u00e6rke antioxidantegenskaber. Der er forskningsrapporter om, at forbindelserne 3-5, 7-9, 11-13 og 18 har en st\u00e6rk evne til at fjerne DPPH-radikaler.
