Glykosidforbindelser har en bred vifte af glykosidtyper, og enhver forbindelse med hydroxyl-, carboxyl-, amino- eller thiolgrupper i sin struktur kan blive et glykosid. F\u00e6nomenet med lav biotilg\u00e6ngelighed, men god terapeutisk effekt af glykosidl\u00e6gemidler har vakt stor interesse blandt forskere.<\/p>\n<p>Forskning tyder p\u00e5, at glykosidforbindelser omdannes til sekund\u00e6re glykosider eller aglykoner med lav polaritet og h\u00f8j lipidopl\u00f8selighed af mikroorganismer og enzymer, der udskilles i tarmen, efter at de er kommet ind i kroppen. Aglykonerne absorberes og metaboliseres af fase I- og fase II-l\u00e6gemiddelmetaboliserende enzymer i tarmepitelet og leveren og udskilles gennem urin og galde eller returneres til tarmen gennem det hepatointestinale kredsl\u00f8b. Efterf\u00f8lgende kommer nogle resterende aglykoner og\/eller metaboliske derivater ind i det vaskul\u00e6re kredsl\u00f8b. Ved at kombinere high-throughput-sekventeringsteknologi med mikrobiel kulturteknologi og kombinere in vivo-metabolisme med in vitro-inkubation er det derfor mere befordrende at sammenligne de specifikke produkter, der produceres af tarmspecifikke bakterier og deres metaboliske glycosidforbindelser mellem normale og syge organismer samt mellem forskellige syge organismer, for at udforske specifikke farmakologiske komponenter og forklare mekanismen for terapeutiske virkninger.
