Tumorceller har et unormalt energistofskifte, hvor de bruger glykolysen til at skaffe energi, selv i et iltrigt milj\u00f8. Omkring 50% af ATP i tumorceller syntetiseres gennem aerob glykolyse. Acetoacetatkinase (PK) har fire isoformer, M1, M2, L og R, og er det tredje hastighedsbegr\u00e6nsende enzym i glykolysen. PKM2 er meget overudtrykt i tumorv\u00e6v.
