I traditionel kinesisk medicin bruges de ofte til at fjerne varme, afgifte, affugte og lindre smerter. I tibetansk medicin og Zhuang-medicin er de registreret som v\u00e6rende effektive til behandling af sygdomme som vaskulitis, enteritis, fem-organers varmesyndrom og alpin hyperurik\u00e6mi. De vigtigste aktive ingredienser i planter i sl\u00e6gten Corydalis er isoquinolinalkaloider samt organiske aminer, isoindoler og andre alkaloider. Blandt dem er protoopioider og protoberberin vidt udbredt i Corydalis-planter og har en bred vifte af biologiske aktiviteter.
