Det kan aktivere aktiviteten af glukosetransport\u00f8r (GLUT) og forskellige glykolytiske enzymer som HK2, PKM2 og pyruvatdehydrogenasekinase 1 (PDK1) og deltage direkte i glykolyseprocessen, hvilket i h\u00f8j grad fremmer tumorprogression. Hexokinase (HK) og pyruvatkinase (PK) er to vigtige kinaser i glykolysen, som regulerer henholdsvis de indledende og de afsluttende faser af processen. Derfor spekuleres der i, at lotusbladsalkaloid kan p\u00e5virke glykolyseprocessen i HuCCT1-celler ved at reducere aktiviteten af HIF-1 \u03b1.<br \/>\nHIF-1 er en type transkriptionsfaktor, som celler reagerer p\u00e5 i iltfattige eller hypoksiske milj\u00f8er, og som best\u00e5r af to underenheder: HIF-1 \u03b1 og HIF-1 \u03b2. Prolinresten i HIF-1 \u03b1 er modtagelig for hydroxylering under normoxiske forhold og binder til sit afstemningsmolekyle (von Hippel Lindau, pVHL), som derefter nedbrydes ved ubiquitinering. I et iltfattigt milj\u00f8 falder aktiviteten af prolylhydroxylase-dom\u00e6neholdige proteiner (PHD), hvilket f\u00f8rer til en betydelig ophobning af HIF-1 \u03b1, som derefter migrerer til kernen for at danne en dimer med HIF-1 \u03b2.
