Mere end 16.000 marine naturprodukter er blevet isoleret og identificeret fra marine organismer, og marine mikroorganismer anses for at v\u00e6re en v\u00e6rdifuld kilde til produktion af nye antibiotika, antitumor- og antiinflammatoriske l\u00e6gemidler. Havsvampe, is\u00e6r dem, der er relateret til havalger, svampe, hvirvell\u00f8se dyr og sedimenter, er effektive producenter af bioaktive sekund\u00e6re metabolitter. Tretten forbindelser blev isoleret og identificeret, blandt hvilke forbindelser 1 til 3 var \u03b3-butyrolacton-derivater, forbindelse 4 var en klasse af marine naturlige alkaloid maleimid (2,5-pyrrolidon)-derivater, forbindelse 5 var statinl\u00e6gemidlet lovastatin, forbindelse 6 var terpenforbindelse og forbindelse 7 var methylbenzoatforbindelse.
