MTORT betragtes som en ventil for autofagi. Forskning har vist, at fosforyleret mTOR kan afhj\u00e6lpe skader som f\u00f8lge af oxidativ glukosemangel og spille en beskyttende rolle i cellerne. 3-MA er en almindeligt anvendt autofagi-h\u00e6mmer. Beclin1 er en moden autofagi-regulator, der er positivt korreleret med autofagi. Beclin1 interagerer med proteiner som VPS15, VPS34, ATG14 for at udf\u00f8re autofagi og membrantransportfunktioner. LC3 er en homolog af den ubiquitinlignende modifikator ATG8 i g\u00e6r, som menes at spille en rolle i autofagi. Efter behandling med ATG4 mister LC3 sin C-terminale rest og omdannes til LC3-I.
