Det er en unik l\u00e6geurt i Kina, hovedsageligt udbredt i Zhejiang, Guangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou og andre steder. Denne l\u00e6geurt blev f\u00f8rste gang registreret i \"Shennong Bencao Jing\". Den har en k\u00f8lig natur, en bitter smag og en lille toksicitet. Den virker varmeafledende og afgiftende, opl\u00f8ser slim og knuder og lindrer smerter og h\u00e6velser. Klinisk bruges den ofte til at behandle traumatiske skader, hemiplegi, artralgi, slangebid, s\u00e5r, h\u00e6velse, condyloma acuminatum, epidemisk h\u00e6moragisk feber, brystkr\u00e6ft, spiser\u00f8rskr\u00e6ft, japansk encephalitis, lymfadenitis, f\u00e5resyge og andre inflammatoriske sygdomme. L\u00e6geurten stjerneanis indeholder hovedsageligt aromatiske naphthalenlignaner og flavonoider. Indtil videre er der isoleret 40 flavonoider, herunder 14 flavonoider. Flavonoiderne i stjerneanis lotus er for det meste polymerer af flavonoler og dihydroflavonoler, som har st\u00e6rke cytotoksiske, antioxidante, acetylcholinesterase- og neuraminidaseh\u00e6mmende aktiviteter. Denne unders\u00f8gelse har til form\u00e5l at s\u00f8ge efter nye naturlige antioxidanter og belyse det farmakologiske stofgrundlag for stjerneanislotus. To nye isomerer af flavonoider og en flavonoidforbindelse blev isoleret og identificeret, nemlig (+) - stjerneanis lotus flavonoider H (1a), (-) - stjerneanis lotus flavonoider H (1b), (+) - stjerneanis lotus flavonoider I (2a), (-) - stjerneanis lotus flavonoider I (2b) og podoverine F (3). Ved hj\u00e6lp af DPPH-radikalfjernelsesassay blev antioxidantaktiviteten af forbindelserne 1, 1a, 1b, 2, 2a og 2b testet. Resultaterne viste, at forbindelserne 2, 2a og 2b havde en st\u00e6rk opfangningsevne over for DPPH-radikaler og var st\u00e6rkere end det positive l\u00e6gemiddel trolox. Unders\u00f8gelser af forholdet mellem struktur og aktivitet har vist, at ortho-dihydroxygruppen p\u00e5 B-ringen er en vigtig strukturel gruppe for, at flavonoider kan udvise DPPH-radikalfjernende aktivitet.
